Slow Ministry doesn't refer to the often cited idiom that the "church is often the last part of a society to change," but instead points toward how I believe Christian ministry in general and youth ministry in particular should function--slowly, sustainably, intentionally, organically. Too often youth ministry resembles a Mountain Dew induced frenzy of activity or a weekly youth-only
entertain-mo-worship session instead of a church ministry which forms, encourages, and guides youth as disciples who honor God.
Slow Ministry also refers to the often forgotten reality that youth ministers operate within in a vocational framework of non-instant gratification. We usually do not see the full fruit of our efforts with youth. We are primarily planters, waterers, aerators, occasionally pruners, and rarely harvesters.
My name is Jason and outside of ministry I am a husband to a great wife, Sara, an Ohio State fan, a Carson-Newman College and Wake Forest University grad, a Baptist, a guitar player, a handyman, and hopefully a thinker!
I currently serve as Minister to Youth at
Calvary Baptist Church in downtown Lexington, Kentucky and have previously served Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Louisiana.
